Clean Beauty | sulphate-free

At -417, sulphate-free refers to reducing our environmental impact by not using sulphates in listed products.

Sulphates are detergents commonly found in products like shampoo, body wash, and face cleansers. They are accused of causing irritation or dryness. They are said to remove part of the protective hydrolipidic film naturally present on the skin and scalp. Sulphates can also sting when in contact with the eyes. Lastly, the supply of fatty-chain alcohols, which are at the origin of sulphates, is questioned as they could be derived from palm oil. The methods of obtaining certain sulphates can have an environmental impact.

How Sulfates Work

Sulfates are surfactants – molecules that can attract both oil and water: One end of the molecule clings to the oily dirt, while the other clings to water – they can lift the grease and grime off of our skin and hair, dissolve (emulsify) it into solution and then rinse everything down the drain.
