Clean Beauty | plant extracts

The medicinal properties of plants are now more recognized than ever because of both scientific and anecdotal evidence of their many health benefits. Phytochemicals are natural compounds found in plants such as herbs, vegetables and fruits that work with nutrients and fibres to support health-promoting functions and activities in the body. Argan oil, avocado oil and coconut oil are plant extract for example. At -417, all of our formulas are enriched with natural plant extracts.

Plants can be used in three forms in cosmetics: as total extracts of the whole plant e.g. Aloe vera gel; as selective extracts of the plant e.g. wheat germ, or as isolates i.e. single molecules isolated from the extracts e.g. vitamins

In cosmetics and personal care products, vegetable oil and hydrogenated vegetable oil are used in the formulation of bath products, cleansing products, eye makeup, fragrances, foot powders, makeup, personal cleanliness products, sun tan products, and other skin products.

All physical extraction methods (crushing, trituration and pressing) involve some form of grinding followed by separation, without chemically modifying the molecules.
